Title | http7 hardware replacement |
ID | Operation #47 |
State | completed |
Beginning date | 08/03/2012 7:01 p.m. |
End date | 08/03/2012 11:40 p.m. |
Affected servers |
|
08/03/2012 12:01 p.m. |
The machine will be replaced. All accounts will be smoothly transferred over the new machine. Expected downtime: a few seconds per account. A final reboot of the new machine will then be done to make sure everything is OK, with an additional ~60 seconds downtime. |
08/03/2012 7:01 p.m. |
We’re starting the operation. Note: accounts will be migrated over the next few hours. A tiny HTTP downtime is expected (a few seconds), but SSH, FTP and WebDAV accesses will be unavailable for longer (until the whole server is migrated). |
08/03/2012 10:33 p.m. |
The migration is almost complete. We’ll soon transfer the IP addresses over the new machine and finally reboot it. |
08/03/2012 10:44 p.m. |
A kernel crash during the reboot caused an unexpected HTTP downtime. |
08/03/2012 10:52 p.m. |
The hard reboot causes XFS to recover the disk. |
08/03/2012 11:02 p.m. |
Taking a lot of time, we’re investigating. |
08/03/2012 11:20 p.m. |
Unfortunately, XFS is taking ages to mount (recover) the filesystem. It could take hours. We’re still considering our options there. |
08/03/2012 11:26 p.m. |
The filesystem has mounted. We’re making sure everything is OK. |
08/03/2012 11:37 p.m. |
SSH, FTP and WebDAV accesses are back. Everything seems to be working properly. We’re still reviewing everything. |
08/03/2012 11:50 p.m. |
The migration is completed. Needless to say, it didn’t happen as expected, due to that final kernel crash. The HTTP downtime should not have exceeded a couple of minutes. We’re very sorry about the inconvenience. If your account is not working properly since the migration, please open a support ticket. We’ll still need to schedule a reboot tomorrow night. The frequent hardware issues with http7 over the last few months should now be history. |
